Please read the following and then click on the link below. You will see how the modern interpretation of 1 Timothy 1:10 can be completely debunked.
Here is the way the verse reads in the New King James Version (NKJV):
“But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.” 1 Timothy 1:8-11 (NKJV)
Take a quicklook at the list in the above verses. The list includes
- those who commit patricide and matricide: (Greek: μητρολῴας mētrolōas, “murderers of fathers and mothers”
- those who commit murder of other people (Greek: ἀνδροφόνος andro-phonos, “man”-“murder”)
- those who “fornicate” (Greek:πόρνος pornos) The Bible gives a convoluted meaning to “fornication” as translated into English.
- those who kidnapped (Greek: ἀνδραποδιστής andrapodistēs) In the Bible, this referred to people who were slave-traders and stole other men’s slaves.
- those who were liars (Greek: ψεύστης pseustēs)
- those who committed perjury (Greek: ἐπίορκος epiorkos)
Apparently, bigots would have you believe that God places to human beings who happen to be the same sex, who love and care for each other, who sit at each others’ bedsides at the hospital when one is sick, who work to make the world a better place, and who go to an open and accepting church where they worship the Lord Jesus Christ together. Seemingly, to ignorant people, God puts them in the same category as people who murder their mothers and fathers, who murder enemies and innocent people, who kidnap other human beings, and who bear false witness against innocent people.

The Apostle Paul used the same Greek word, (ἀρσενοκοίτης arsenokoitēs), in 1 Timothy 1:10 that is found in 1 Corinthians 6:9:
- “sodomites” in the New King James Version (NKJV)
- “them that defile themselves with mankind” in the King James Version (KJV)
- “men who practice homosexuality” in the English Standard Version (ESV)
- “homosexuals” in the New American Standard Bible (NASB)
- “sodomites” in the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
- “those practicing homosexuality” in the New International Version (NIV), and
- “males who have sex with males” in the Christians Standard Bible (CSB)
1 Timothy 1:10 Interpretation Debunked
Therefore, not one of these translations or paraphrases is justified. The translations of the NKJV and the NRSV are the most charitable to people with same-sex attraction. All the other translations or paraphrases are academically dishonest, prejudicial interpretations that are unjustified and cruel.
